Computers – If we take a break from our work, we need to switch off our monitors. Even if we completely shut down our computer, it is still necessary for us to turn it off. This simple step will help you save energy.

Light bulbs – You can utilize compact fluorescent lights (CFL) in lieu of the incandescent lights we used before. This will also make you save significant amount of power to reduce your monthly electricity bills. You will need to shell out an amount of money to purchase CFL bulbs but it is nothing compared to the amount you can save.

Air conditioner – Maintain a constant temperature by which you are comfortable. Don’t set it out too high or too low because the moment you keep adjusting the level of temperature is also the moment that it eats up a lot of energy.

Washing machine – As much as possible only use washing machines when you have full load of laundry. Don’t use it if you will only wash two pairs of clothing as this will really make you waste too much energy. You can do hand-wash if you really want to wash your clothes.

Television – Always turn your television off when no one is watching. This is one of the things we sometimes neglect doing.

Geysers – Don’t turn on your geysers for too long and only fix the thermostat at its lower limit.

Refrigerator – Don’t put overly hot food or beverage in the refrigerator. Make sure that you bring it at room temperature. You can also take out frozen food long before mealtime so you can save energy in heating it.

These are just small ways and steps but compared with not doing anything this will surely make significant help in the ongoing power crisis that the world is facing as of today. You only need to create awareness inside your home and involve your family with it.
